Working at Camp Burnt Gin is a fun, rewarding and challenging summer job. Although you may be able to make more money in the retail industry, the experience and intrinsic rewards you receive from working with these children cannot be matched. As a camp staff member, you can be one of the most important adult role models in a child's life.
Camp Burnt Gin needs individuals of good moral character, integrity, physical and mental health who have a desire and ability to work with children who have special needs. Applicants must be able to put the needs of others before their own. They must be enthusiastic, dedicated, patient, and possess a positive attitude and good sense of humor. Individuals must be able to relate to and work with other staff members; accept and respond to guidance and supervision.
Must be at least a high school graduate. Responsible for the supervision and daily care of eight children who have special health care needs. Assist each camper in his or her adjustment to and participation in a residential camping program.
Must have R.N. degree and be licensed to practice in South Carolina. Must have experience in working with children. Experience in working with children who have special needs is desirable. Responsible for planning and carrying out a program of health and safety for all the residents in camp. Must have current adult/infant/child CPR Certification.
Director of Program Areas - for - Arts and Crafts, Nature, Sports and Games, Fine Arts
Must have completed junior year of college or sophomore year and previous Camp Burnt Gin experience. Must have knowledge, training and/or work experience in area of specialization. Must be able to teach and motivate others. Responsible for planning, directing and implementing specialized camp program in addition to assisting counselors when not involved in program area.
Must be at least 21 years old and have at least one year experience in directing a waterfront program. Must possess current Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training, Adult/Infant CPR and First Aid certificates. Responsible for directing and planning all waterfront activities and implementing an American Red Cross instructional swim program. Supervise four waterfront assistants. Assist counselors when not involved in program area.
Waterfront Assistants (4)
Must have completed sophomore year in college or freshman year and previous Camp Burnt Gin experience. Must possess current Lifeguard Training, Adult/Infant CPR and First Aid certificates. Water Safety Instructor certification is desirable. Responsible for assisting with the boating, instructional and recreational swimming program. Assist counselors when not involved in program area.
Dates of Employment
Staff are employed from the beginning of June until early August which includes a week long staff training, six seven day sessions and one four day session. Days off are scheduled in between each of the sessions.
All employees receive a bi-monthly salary plus room and board. Staff Salaries is based on the position and previous experience.
