Children With Special Health Care Needs

Our Mission

To provide leadership in the development of appropriate systems of care that are community based, family centered, and culturally appropriate.

Programs and Services

CSHCN offers programs and services for children, adolescents, and adults. The division serves individuals with a variety of very medically diverse disabilities, chronic illnesses and severe developmental delays. Healthy children and adolescents can develop special needs in a single moment from accidents, child abuse, or illness. While all children require primary and preventive care, CSHCN children have complex problems that extend beyond the services offered by the average health care plan, HMO, or well-trained pediatrician. CSHCN personnel have the expertise, experience, and mandate to assure and provide extended services these individuals need.

When children have early access to these special services, it enables them to reach their maximum potential. The CSHCN Program serves approximately 12,000 special needs children across the state on an annual basis.
