COLUMBIA, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has reopened the Colleton County clam and oyster beds known as Shellfish Growing Area 13.
“Area 13 includes the South Edisto and Ashepoo rivers and all of their tributaries,” said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation program. “The beds of this area have been reopened because water quality sampling results indicate bacteria levels are suitable for clam and oyster harvesting.”
A map showing all of South Carolina’s shellfish growing areas is available on DHEC’s website at: http://www.scdhec.gov/sfmaps. For more information about shellfish, see DHEC's shellfish webpage at: http://www.scdhec.gov/shellfish.
