Site conditions were sunny and clear with mild temperatures today. There was minimal smoke coming off the pile this morning prior to the commencement of activities. Later, smoke was limited to the areas that were being excavated. Smoke increased with the removal of waste material but was easily managed with the application of water. Very little smoke was visible by mid-afternoon. Operations ran very smoothly today with good turnaround times on trucks.
All three DHEC sensors, including the ones located at Okatie Elementary School and Sun City, are currently in the “Good” range for the 24-hour averages.

Please note: The number of trucks leaving the site each day varies depending on the weather and firefighting activities. Also, the tons per truck are estimated on days when landfill receipts are not available at the time of this update.
Smoke forecast for Friday, September 20, 2019:
Little (if any) noticeable smoke has been observed from the Able Contracting facility over the last couple of days, and air quality monitoring data in the local area of the fire has shown particulate concentrations in the good range. If fire flare-ups do occur, a northeasterly wind will become a more easterly wind by the evening on Friday and will likely move smoke plumes towards the southwest, and then the west later in the day. Any noticeable smoke during the overnight and early morning period will likely dissipate by the late morning hours. However, given the latest trends in fire activity and continued fire suppression efforts, smoke is not expected to be a problem beyond locations closest to the Able Contracting facility along Schinger Avenue.
