Latest Update

Most material is being sprayed with water as it is being removed from the pile, and there has been a minimal amount of smoke. Runoff resulting from the applied water is being contained in a recently constructed sump which is providing better management of water on the site. Sixteen dump trucks are hauling material today and are operating with efficient turnaround times.

Smoke forecast for Thursday, October 3, 2019:

Air quality monitoring data in the local area of the fire continues to show particulate concentrations in the "Good" range. If fire flare-ups do occur, a light southwesterly wind will likely move any smoke plumes towards the northeast through Thursday morning, then shift from the south and move any smoke plumes northward. It should be noted that wind speeds should be very light, ranging less than 5 mph and there could also be calm winds at times in the vicinity of the Able Contracting facility. Any noticeable smoke during the overnight and early morning hours will likely dissipate by the late morning hours. However, given the latest trends in fire activity and continued fire suppression efforts, smoke is not expected to be a problem beyond locations closest to the Able Contracting facility along Schinger Avenue.

The Able Contracting Information Hotline has been established to provide the daily forecast and allow community members to leave messages if they have additional questions. The Smoke Forecast Hotline phone number is 803-898-4262 or 1-800‐204-1842.
