Latest Update
Today has been partly cloudy and in the upper 50s. There was a little smoke this morning along with steam coming from the hot pile and freshly exposed areas. Operations have been running smoothly with 18 dump trucks and 4 dump trailers.
All DHEC sensors are still reading in the “Good” range for the 24-hour average comparison to the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Please note: The number of trucks leaving the site each day varies depending on the weather and firefighting activities. Also, the tons per truck are estimated on days when landfill receipts are not available at the time of this update.
We’ve used a combination of both triaxle dump trucks and dump trailers. Each dump trailer has the capacity of about three times that of the triaxle dump trucks.
Operations at the site have shut down for the Thanksgiving holiday. During the break, the Jasper County Fire Service has agreed to check the site a couple of times a day and will spray water if needed. We also have contractor staff on standby to respond if Jasper County Fire Service thinks it is necessary. Normal operations will resume on Monday, December 2.

Smoke Forecast through Monday, December 2, 2019:
Air quality monitoring data in the local area of the fire continues to show particulate concentrations in the "Good" range. If fire flare-ups do occur, a northwesterly wind will likely push smoke plumes to the southeast through the day Thursday. Friday, northeasterly wind will likely push smoke plumes to the southwest. Winds will be light and variable through the morning Saturday, then an easterly wind will likely push smoke plumes to the west in the afternoon. Winds Sunday will become southwest likely pushing any smoke plumes northeastward. Monday a northwesterly wind will likely push smoke plumes to the southeast. Any noticeable smoke during the overnight and early morning periods will likely dissipate by the late morning hours. However, given the latest trends in fire activity and continued fire suppression efforts, smoke is not expected to be a problem beyond locations closest to the Able Contracting facility along Schinger Avenue.
