DHEC reopens shellfish beds in Charleston County
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has reopened shellfish beds previously closed due to the sewage spill at Sullivan’s Island in Charleston County, the agency announced today.
“Shellfish tissue sampling results indicate that the portions of the Intracoastal Waterway northeast of the Ben Sawyer Bridge to the confluence with Conch Creek and all of State Ground S-217 are now safe for harvesting,” said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC’s Shellfish Sanitation Section.
