Potential Risk to Health - Congaree River Sediment

Notice sign on banks of the Congaree

While much of the tar-like material (TLM) is contained under the sediment along the Congaree River between the Gervais Street Bridge and the Blossom Street Bridge, there is still potential to come in contact with the TLM when wading or swimming along the eastern bank. If skin comes in contact with the TLM it is possible to have some skin irritation. Remove any TLM with soap or hand cleaner if skin is stained from contact.
