Cooking Oil

Cooking oil (cooking oil, fats and greases) is accepted - from households ONLY - at the Public Works facility at 2910 Colonial Drive. The facility is open from 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please note that cooking oil containers are not accepted for recycling at this site. Please call (803) 545-3780 for more information.

Electronics

Electronics, household equipment (televisions, computers, computer monitors, printers and other electronic equipment) and ALL fluorescent bulbs - from City of Columbia residents ONLY - can be recycled at the PublicWorks facility at 2910 Colonial Drive. Items can be dropped off between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please call (803) 545-3780 for more information.

Compost for Sale

This compost is made of yard trimmings from City of Columbia residents.

Location: Humane Lane
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5PM 
Details: Compost costs $25 per cubic yard.

City of Forest Acres

The City of Forest Acres collects garbage, recycling and yard debris once a week at each residence.

On the morning of your weekly garbage collection, your cart must be at the curb by 7 AM. Please remove your cart from the curb by 8 PM of your collection day. Garbage must be placed in roll carts. Recyclable materials must be placed in recycling bins for pickup, but should not be bagged.

What to Throw Away

Your roll cart is for disposing of regular household garbage. Please place bagged household garbage in your roll cart. Bag and tie so garbage won't fly! Plastic shopping bags are good to use as garbage bags and you can use the handles as ties. Pet owners: please seal animal waste and cat litter in plastic bags before placing in roll cart. Please do not use your cart for yard waste, recycling, hot ashes, flammable liquids, chemicals, motor oil, hazardous waste or construction debris.

Each resident is provided with one recycling bin from the city.

Unacceptable items for curbside recycling:

  • Egg cartons
  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam of any kind
  • Light bulbs, dishes or window pane glass

Public Works facility at the corner of Covenant Rd. and Robert Springs Rd. This facility ONLY accepts the following items:

  • Aluminum and tin (soda, vegetable and aerosol cans)
  • Cardboard (flattened and dry; shipping boxes and clean pizza boxes
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Paperboard (flattened cereal and shoe boxes)
  • Plastic containers (milk jugs, soda bottles, plastic bottles, jugs, and jars with recycling codes #1 - 7)
