DHEC Closes Additional Shellfish Harvesting Beds in Beaufort County

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has closed additional shellfish harvesting beds in Beaufort County due to heavy weekend rainfall, the agency announced today. 


"This closure affects all shellfish harvesting in the Conditional Management Area of Wallace Creek and Capers Creek in Beaufort County," said Mike Pearson, manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Section. " The affected area will reopen once water quality data indicates that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting."


The shellfish harvesting closure in the Jenkins Creek and Warsaw Flats areas of Beaufort County announced on Nov. 30 remain in effect.
