Consent Agreement and Site Assessment
On February 26, 2019, DHEC executed Consent Agreement #19-02-HW with Westinghouse to formally address historical contamination and implement a protocol for communicating and responding to any contamination discovered in the future. The consent agreement requires Westinghouse to conduct a comprehensive site-wide environmental assessment (also known as a Remedial Investigation) to fully determine the extent of contamination at the site. Once the assessment has been completed, methods for cleanup will be evaluated and implemented.

DHEC Next Steps
DHEC is overseeing the investigation as required by the Consent Agreement and expects a final report to be completed by the end of the year.
DHEC held a community meeting on July 25, 2019, at the Lower Richland High School Auditorium, to discuss the Westinghouse site. Additional information about the meeting can be found here.
