CURBSIDE COLLECTION (unincorporated areas):

Lexington County residents may subscribe to curbside solid waste and recyclables collection by contacting the designated hauler for their area. Recycling roll carts are provided at NO ADDITIONAL COST. Some municipalities also provide curbside collection. For more information, visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/solidwaste or call (803) 755-3325.

Materials Accepted:

  • Paper – newspaper, magazines, inserts, unwanted mail, telephone and soft covered books, envelopes, office paper, cardboard, cartons (flattened)
  • Plastic – bottles, jugs, jars, and tubs #1 - #7 (screw on lids on, pop-off lids off)
  • Metal – aluminum drink cans, metal food cans (lids on or in)
  • Glass – bottles and jars (lids discarded)

Lexington County Collection and Recycling Centers and the Edmund Landfill accept a larger variety of recyclables than offered in Curbside Collection programs.

Items accepted at all Recycle Centers:

  • Aluminum cans, foil, trays
  • Metal cans, appliances (no refrigeration units), grills, bicycles, scrap-pieces, etc.
  • Cardboard (corrugated, food cartons, brown grocery bags – all flattened)
  • Newspapers and magazines, flyers, inserts, unwanted mail, telephone books, soft covered books, beverage (peaked top) cartons
  • Office paper, writing paper, printer paper, shredded paper)
  • Glass jars and bottles (separated by color, clear, blue/green, brown)
  • Plastic jars, jugs, bottles (#1 - #7)
  • Batteries (large), automobile, boat, atv, mower)
  • Carpet Padding, foam and foam rubber only, no waffle pad (clean & dry)*
  • Tires, maximum of four per household per day*
  • Wood Waste - Clean (NO plastic bags or containers), untreated/unpainted wood, tree/bush trimmings no greater than 4' in length and 4" in thickness, leaves, grass clippings, pine straw (larger trimmings are accepted at the Edmund Landfill)*
  • Cooking Oil (5 gallon maximum)
  • Engine Oil and Fluids (5 gallon maximum), motor oil & fuel, antifreeze, oil
  • Oil Filter and Bottles
  • Fluorescent bulbs and tubes (no greater than 4 feet, larger ones collected at the Edmund Landfill)
  • Textiles (slightly used/reusable items), paired shoes, clothing, bedding, kitchenware

Edmund Landfill

Location: 498 Landfill Lane, Lexington

Hours: Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Accepts all recyclable items that are accepted at Collection and Recycle Centers in addition to the following items:

  • Mattress and Box Spring
  • Propane Tank
  • Tires (greater than 4 per day - fee may apply)
  • Wood Waste - Clean (NO plastic bags or containers), untreated wood, tree/bush trimmings - no size limitations, leaves, grass clippings, pine straw
  • Refrigeration Units - fee may apply
  • Electronics (computers, monitors, printers/copiers, Televisions) - five items per day

For Sale:

Mulch, Compost and Compost Bins are available at the Edmund Landfill. The costs are as follows:

  • Compost - $10/ton or $2/bag (approx. 40 lb.)
  • Uncolored/untreated mulch - $10/ton
  • Colored/treated mulch - $45/ton or $2/bag (2 cu. ft.)
  • Backyard Compost Bin (80 gal., 33” x 33”) - $40 – pre-order to avoid a wait when picking up
