DHEC Reopens Shellfish Harvesting Locations in Beaufort County Effective May 8 at Sunrise

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is opening Shellfish Management Area 17 (Broad River and all its tributaries in Beaufort County) to harvesting effective sunrise on May 8. Areas 10A and 12A in Charleston County will remain closed until water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for harvesting.

"Water quality data indicate that bacteria levels are once again suitable for shellfish harvesting throughout the selected area only," said Mike Pearson, Manager of DHEC's Shellfish Sanitation Section.
